gt world challenge europe – 26 august 2022

further endurance entries added to 2022 campaign

Sam De Haan will expand his endurance racing programme even further this year, with confirmation of entry into the two remaining Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup rounds. He will return to action with Barwell Motorsport in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo next week as the team switches to run in the Silver Cup for the remainder of the season, with the championship heading to Hockenheim in Germany, before the season finale at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona in Spain at the end of September.

After contesting the TotalEnergies 24 hours of Spa earlier this year with Barwell Motorsport, Sam continues with the team and will, once again, share driving duties with Alex MacDowall. The pair will be joined by Patrick Kujala for the German event over the weekend 2-4 September, who then makes way for Brit Charile Fagg to contest the Barcelona event. The line-ups will compete in the boldly liveried Silver Cup #77 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo which debuted at the Spa enduro event, and they are looking to build on the class-leading pace they showed over the weekend to secure strong results.

Sam explained:
“I am always looking to push myself and take on more challenges as I develop as a driver, and I am really pleased we can confirm these additional Endurance Cup races with Barwell. We had a really strong package for the Spa 24 Hours against a very strong field, but we were really unlucky, so I am hopeful that we can keep that momentum going and achieve the results that we know we are capable of. It has ended up being a very busy year of racing, but I am so pleased that we could make these two events work with the schedule, and I am excited to experience another new circuit when we get to Hockenheim next week.”

This season has seen Sam take on new challenges in his development as a GT endurance racing driver, having so far contested the full Asian Le Mans Series and the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa in GT3 machinery, and taking the step up to GTE competition with a full season campaign in the European Le Mans Series. The latter of these continues this weekend for Sam, in Barcelona, before heading straight to Germany for what will be his first experience of the famous Hockenheim circuit.

Sam takes on round 4 of the European Le Mans Series this weekend, 26-28 August, in Barcelona, Spain racing with Oman Racing and TF Sport before heading to Hockenheim, Germany with Barwell Motorsport next week, 2-4 September.
